The Te Rapa-based parish was formed in 1954, from parts of the Fairfield and Frankton Parishes. The parish was named after the first saint of Oceania, St Pierre-Louis-Marie Chanel.

The School

The parish school was erected in 1955 and staffed by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions until the mid 1970's.

The Church

The church was built in 1965, opening in May that year. Extensions were added in 1998 and blessed and opened by Bishop Browne on 26th July 1998.
